NG Stories
Exhibition Strategy
and briefing pack
The National Gallery commissioned us to develop a strategic approach for a new exhibition exploring the people, places, and stories that made the Gallery what it is today.
Phase 1
We started by strategy and mapping relationships, through building a strategic framework and generating ideas, to identifying patterns, developing actionable concepts, and testing them collaboratively in a workshop.
Phase 2
After reviewing the testing insights with experts and identifying the contextual opportunites, we created a detailed, actionable Masterplan for delivery.
Phase 3
Building on the Masterplan, we created a create clear, actionable brief and tender pack, outlining objectives, scope, requirements, and success criteria providing suppliers with the information needed to respond effectively.
During Phase 1 we set the groundwork for the project.
We began with an extensive document review, followed by a mapping exercise designed to organise our observations and insights into a visual overview of the project's opportunities and challenges.
Next, we created a draft strategic framework to provide structure to the project goals. This led to an ideation phase and further mapping to identify key patterns across the emerging concepts.
Finally, we developed 30 expressions of the key ideas – tangible material designed to drive discussion in an internal workshop with the project's key stakeholders.
Phase 2 focused on refining insights and defining a clear path to creating the brief for tender.
We identified key operational challenges, explored ideas for meaningful experiences, and modelled core concepts to test speculative interactions.
Through workshops and surveys with key audiences, we synthesised findings into themes, which were further developed with input from internal experts to align content opportunities with audience needs.
Lastly, we mapped outputs to operational blueprints, delivery milestones and interdependencies within the larger organisational schedule, culminating in a Masterplan with timelines, budgets and workstreams.
During the final phase of work we developed the tender package.
Building on the Masterplan, we created a create clear, actionable brief outlining objectives, scope, requirements, and success criteria providing suppliers with the information needed to respond effectively.
This phase established a robust foundation for procurement and the successful implementation of the project.
